| Well it turns out Stu's 'cock' predictions were spot on for the Easter weekend, there was indeed, clean 3-5' waves, warm water (gloves came off for some!) and offshore breezes. Lots of drinking did indeed happen, though some kept enough back to make a quiet dawn patrol. The rain held off until Monday and yes, even the Easter Bunny visited!
Surf tip of the week When you think you've caught the wave and it's time to stand up, paddle once more, just to make sure.
Surf Forecast The weekend looking very good again, small, clean and offshore most places, just visit your favorite beach.
However, it even provides a perfect 'case study' on things to look for in a good forecast, so lets do that...
First thing is when you look at this page. Magic Seaweed: Saunton/Croyde/Woolacombe What will catch most peoples eye is that at 9am Saturday we go from no stars to 2 stars. OK, the 'stars' are notoriously unreliable for reasons that need a lecture series to understand, (watch this space). But look more closely at this excerpt:

You'll see that while the height stays the same the period goes from 7 seconds to 12 seconds. This is a "good thing". Long period means good, often clean surf and a sudden jump from short period to long period means the start of a new swell arriving. Often the best waves arrive at the start of a new swell. You can see after that the period slowly drops again till Monday evening when it reaches 7 seconds.
7 seconds is 'short period', 12 seconds is quite long period for us here, 14 seconds is very long for the UK.
If you're not lost already, then look at the 'period chart'.
The animation shows the new long period swell arriving, in this picture (currently for Saturday Morning.)

Note, these images were captured on Wednesday evening. The timing often changes, but continue to look for those details through Thursday and Friday to see if you can afford a drink on Friday night, or if you need to be up at the crack of dawn to catch the best waves.
See you there, I know where I'll be!
Ric.
