| BSC Newsletter. 13th May | |
| Aloha people. It's time for another BSC news nugget.
First up, good to see so many BSC crew turn out for the film on Sunday. Christiaan from SurfScreen was really chuffed with the whole evening. With any luck he'll be back again soon with more stoke for the big screen.
Next, news of two competitions coming up this weekend. Phil Williams from the Christian Surfers has been in touch to let us know about the Bude Surf Classic - an open shortboard competition that's running at Widemouth. In Phil's words "we would love some of the BSC crew to enter so go to www.christiansurfers.co.uk". At the same time the Hotdoggers are running the second round of their club series on the hallowed Saunton Sands.
Sounds fun but will there be a wave to surf on? Over to Ric:
Busy week this week, so sorry, not much time to delve into detail which is a shame as there is lots to see. There is a new swell marching across the Atlantic in our direction. All week the model has shown that it will make landfall on Thursday evening and that's still looking like the case. For those keen to dig into it, this is the key. Brand new swell marching past the offshore buoys at 6am, but it will take another 18 hours to get from there to the beach. That might be midnight Thursday, but there might be enough to ride Thursday after work so I'll be making a late call and heading to the beach if the swell is on the way, if anyone wants to come along.
So swell will be best on Thursday night and Friday, though will still have rideable size all weekend. Winds are currently better in Wales than Devon, but there is some NW in the swell, so it will be a smaller wave there. Probably still a good call for most mortals to head to Llangenneth etc for some nice waves in nice conditions on Friday or Saturday. It will be bigger in Cornwall again, but the winds will be less favourable, though not too hopeless.
Into Sunday it drops quickly, so then I'd look to go to Devon or Cornwall and try to make the best of the wind conditions. The wind is the key and hard to guess accurately till nearer the time.
Cheers, Ric.
Cool. I'm thinking Friday evening myself. However, if you can't make it out this the weekend here's some more stuff we have to look forward to:
Pembrokeshire Camping. 22nd-24th May. The BSC camping season is already in full swing so you guys should be experts by now but be warned - there may not be a wine bar within staggering distance for this one. (I know that will come as a shock to some!)
Bude Weekend. 26th-28th June. Andy's confirmed that the Penstowe places are filling up so if you fancy a warm bed then let him know ASAP. Beginners lessons will be £20 per head and there will be plenty of folks camping too so it promises to be a fun weekend.
For more details check the events page.
This weeks meeting Pumphouse. Hotwells. 8pm onwards. Should be rocking as usual. See you there.
