BSC Newsletter. 20th August 09
Only a month since our last weekly newsletter so it's about time we got our act together. Here's a reminder of some upcoming dates and a quick film review courtesy of Sim...

This weekend is the West Corwall camping trip. Looks like the north coast will be off-shore so there could be some fun surf to be had. No need to book and more people have signed up this week so there should be a good crowd. Check the "I love Camp" thread on the forum for the full skinny.

Next up is the Club Longboard Comp on the weekend of the 12th/13th Sept at Saunton. We've got one team confirmed and Pete is still collecting names for another, so get in touch if you fancy it. I gather there are at least a dozen teams in the event so it should be a fun weekend.

Following that, Steve is sorting out a coaching weekend in Polzeath for the first weekend in October (3rd & 4th). Plenty of interest in this one so get your name down if you want to be involved.

Then for November it's the traditional autumn Newquay weekender. The date is the 14th/15th which coincides with Ric's 40th so even more of an excuse to party. Early days on this one but there are all kinds of plans in the pipeline. Watch this space.

Finally, a quick mention about the club library. Ric has been a bit busy lately what with his wedding and stuff (congratulations Ric & Sue) but he's back now and lugging a bag full of dvds and books down to the pub on Thursday evenings. It's free to club members so just grab him and ask for a recommendation. All we ask is that you add a short review on the library forum when you're done. By way of an example, here's Sim's review of the british surf movie "Substance":

So it’s not just Hawaii that gets some awesome waves! If you’re looking for 'soulful' then Substance isn’t it! Straight from the slick opening it’s a fast paced hacking, slashing, floating short board barrel fest set to a really good sound track! The whole thing is filmed in Britain and it’s really nice to see a variety of not so well known surfers getting a wide selection of waves that you and I get every weekend! They still have a few bigger names that pop up here and there with a great section at the start with Stokesy. The whole thing is well cut together and beautifully shot and worth watching right to the end for the quality of the shoeings in the wipe out section. It’s a film that makes you play ‘guess that spot’ whilst being sprinkled with a few moments of ‘Ooo, ooo I recognise that break’. After its 58 minute running time it leaves you wondering where all these waves! are but with the stoke to try and find them!

So, if you want to check out Substance yourself then get down the Pumphouse tonight or send Ric a message on the forum and ask him to reserve it for you.

That's your lot. Same time next week/month. Pumphouse tonight. 8pm onwards. See you there.
