| BSC Newsletter. 18th November 09 | |
| Aloha my BSC brethren. Much has occurred since the last club missive. Winds have blown. Rain has poured. Surf has pumped. Beer has been consumed. Hats off to all who made the journey for last weekends trip. It was a record turnout (we OWNED Newquay) and I'm sure you'll all agree it was a right good laugh in classic BSC freestyle fashion. Can't wait for the next one.
Other dates for your diary:
Howard has been in touch to warn us that the Drift collective will be taking over the Howies shop on Clifton Triangle this Saturday. Expect a bunch of gorgeous hand made surfboards + stunning photography and artwork. Ruth from Surfers Against Sewage will also be running a workshop at 3pm. Definitely worth checking out.
Next up, Andy Dibbs has floated the prospect of a club outing to North Devon on Saturday the 28th. There's already plenty of interest on the forum so stick your name down if you fancy it.
Also, a gentle reminder to get your deposits in for the Christmas party on the 11th December.
Finally, the date for the AGM is confirmed for the 21st January. More details to follow.
Before we go, Sim posted a glowing review on the library forum this week. It was so good we thought it was worth repeating so here it is:
SURFING The manual: Advanced by Jim Kempton
ISBN 978 0-9775569-1-5 (Officially £24.95 but £18.99 from Amazon) First off I’ve included the ISBN because you need this book. I’ve had the book in my sweaty mitts for far too long and really must return it to the library. As such it’s now on my Christmas list and I’ll be buying it if I don’t get it from Santa! As the title suggests this isn’t aimed at beginners but does cover duck diving, diet, etc. It talks about elements in depth and has a series of explanations from professional surfers, talking their way through waves and manoeuvres. What to do and what not to do, where to look, place your board, expect to do next, think about and how to clean your teeth... ok not the teeth part but you get the idea. There is a lot in the book to take on... a reason I’ve been so slack in giving it back to the library and the reason I need to own it instead. I suggest you all take it out, see how good it is and then return it for ! the next person to marvel over or just take my word for it and buy it straight away using the link below. Hands down the best surf technique book I’ve ever read.
He's not kidding - it's a belter. If you want to get your hands on this book then you'd better get down the Pumphouse tomorrow night. See you there.
