BSC Newsletter. January 3rd 2010
Hi all. Quick update on the stuff that happened in January and what's coming up.

What's been happening

Firstly, thanks to everyone who turned out for the AGM. For those who missed it the headlines were:

  • We agreed to cut the membership fee to £5 for 2010 as we don't need the cash.
  • The existing committee was re-elected with the exception of Dryd who didn't stand.
  • In an impromptu vote of thanks for all his work Andy Dibble was voted on to the committee. I think his official title is "beginners representative". Nice one Andy.
  • We agreed a general spending plan for the rest of the year.
  • That plan included £100 to buy new titles for the club library. Ric has already ordered "The Drifter", "The Present" and the "110%" dvds.
  • The policy of trying to subsidise all club events will be dropped for 2010 but some events may get a subsidy if there is spare cash in the pot.

So, we're legit for another 12 months. Good job folks.

The following week we ran the ISA competition judging course, courtesy of Mark Parry from the BSA. We had 8 bodies (after a few late cancellations) and everyone passed so congratulations to all concerned and thanks to Mark for trekking up from Plymouth to run the course.

Upcoming gubbins

The RNLI sponsored swim on Friday 19th Feb is coming together. Andy has asked that everyone who has expressed an interest returns the disclaimer form as quickly as possible - you will not be able to swim if you've not filled one in. There will be copies at the pub on Thursday or you can download a copy to print out here.

Also, Sim's been working on the events calendar for 2010. The first date out of the hat is the spring Newquay weekender - March 12th to 14th. You guys know the drill by now. Post up on the forum to reserve your place. We don't know exactly how much it will cost so watch this space. There's plenty of other plans in the pipeline but we are always looking for suggestions for trips and people to organise them so let us know if you have any requests or ideas.

Finally, travel news. As is traditional at this time of year people are jetting off to warmer parts. We've had reports from members in the Canaries, Sri Lanka, Portugal and this week half the committee are sunning themselves in Morocco. Expect lots of nauseating photos on the forum shortly. (Jealous? Me?) For those of us who are confined to these shores all is not lost. We just had the biggest run of tides in 15 years so the bore riders got a chilly treat - Meg says she scored a good ride on Tuesday. Also, a chunky new swell is due to hit the coast on Friday so there could be some interesting surf in the more sheltered corners this weekend.

Despite our slightly depleted numbers it's business as usual at the Pumphouse this Thursday. Come down for the latest forecast and see who's going where.
