BSC Newsletter. 10th March 2010
It must be spring because this weekend is the Newquay trip but as it turns out that's just the start of a spring surfing extravaganza. There's LOADS of stuff coming up in the next few months so get out your diaries and start scribbling. There will be a test at the end...

Planning for the BSC Club Competition. This Thursday, 8pm at the Pumphouse.
This Thursday evening there's a quick meeting to talk about arrangements for those who want to help out with the club competition in May. Pete's been talking to Robyn Davies (5 times British champion) who now works as a representative for the National Trust. She's keen to get involved and it sounds like she can supply contest equipment and, more importantly, a venue. The provisional plan is to run the comp at Mill Rock in Woolacombe on the Saturday of the second May bankholiday. If you're interested in helping then come down and chip in.

SAS film night. Next Friday the 19th March, 7pm at Howies on Clifton Triangle.
SAS and The Surf Screen will be showing two films. Under the Sun - Korduroy TV's Cyrus Sutton on the paradox of surfing Noosa and Byron Bay and Protect our Waves - an SAS film highlighting water quality/threat issues. £3 on the door. All profits go to SAS.

Easter Trip. 2nd-5th April. Gwithian.
The traditional venue is Churchtown campsite but we've not confirmed the details yet so watch this space...

Land Training for Surfers. Thursday 8th April, early evening. Clifton Down water tower.
Some of you met David Lee from ProEx Fitness at the Pumphouse last Thursday. He's offered to run a group training session on the downs before our usual Thursday night in the pub. First session (weather permitting) will be the 8th April. If people like it then we'll try to make it a weekly arrangement. The start time isn't confirmed yet but 6:30 to 7:30 was suggested. If you have a preference then let us know. The clocks will have gone forward so there should be plenty of light. The cost will depend on numbers but we think it will be about £3 per head.

David is an experienced surfer and specialises in training for board sports so we expect this to be more than just a regular circuit class. We'll collect deposits over the next couple of weeks and when we have an idea of numbers we'll let you know the exact price and start time.

Video coaching, 10th April. Location & cost TBC.
This is another one that's still in the works. Steve H has been talking to some freelance coaches with a view to keeping the cost down and setting up more regular sessions. With any luck prices and location sorted by next week.

Surf Show & Woolacombe fun competition - 24th/25th April.
We learned last week that the planned date for the next Woolacombe vs Bristol fun competition clashes with the Surf Show. As Ben pointed out, the show runs over two days so there's no reason why people can't do both but he's talking to the Wooly guys about the chances of moving the comp to a Sunday or possibly another weekend. Again, watch this space.

Bude Weekend - 15th/16th May.
Still early days on this one but if all goes to plan there will be lessons and coaching for all abilities. Think of it as a training camp for the comp at the end of May.

Finally, two other dates that are worth knowing about:

Hotdoggers Longboard League. Round 1. Saturday 27th March. 8am. Saunton.
If you're a mal rider and you fancy your chances in the comp then get there early. If not then be warned - getting a wave may be harder than usual.

BLU Round 2. May 22nd & 23rd. Saunton.
Another Saunton comp. This time it's the national longboard tour and it's a two day event (so the chances of catching a wave off the rocks are pretty much zero).

I think that's enough for now other than to say that Clive's back from SriLanka (with a broken board) and the girls are back from Morocco with killer tans and the cheesiest grins in history. See you down the Pumphouse. Thursday. 8pm.
